The World of Steam Elephants

Animated clips in the style of illustration of a Victorian scientific romance. They are from the 1958 film Invention for Destruction by Karel Zeman

Unexpectedly elevated to the throne as an infant when the traitor John Francis slew his mother, Edward I and VII is in his 60s after a reign almost as long. Six decades have seen considerable change to the society of which he is titular head.

Although horse-drawn vehicles are still most common, they share the streets with the chariots of progress. Larger towns have steam or electric trams, and steam elephants have almost universally usurped the role of beasts for heavier tasks. Man has taken to the skies by aeronef and dirigible (or for a few, widely considered crazy, projectile travel). For long journeys, aerial transport is still challenged by the railways on land, and steamships and steam wings at sea. It is even possible that space will be conquered by the recent development of the experimental æthernef.

Waxing mastery of road, wave and air heralds the Twentieth Century, a New Age of Science to relieve all of war, poverty and disease.

About

Steam Elephants originally ran between 2007 and 2009, but if I get the information online and enable player involvement then someday it may run again. Wikis are always a work in progress, but this one is in the early stages and will have obvious gaps. There should be more if you come back later!
